In-Person Q & A session for Parents and Updated Information

Happy Friday!

I want to let you know our staff has been in all week brainstorming and creating new and exciting ways to educate our students while being as safe as possible.  This means some of our past routines have been altered or outright thrown out.  We are confident that the new routines and regulations will be easily adopted, and keep everyone safe and cared for.  An example of this is how students will enter and exit the school daily. Below is an updated schedule.  We ask all parents to examine this and go over it with their child.  It will be an expectation from day one that this is adhered to.

Over the past few weeks, I have received many calls with great questions.  Some I could answer quickly, and some I needed some time to find a response.  Through this, I realized there are many parents with similar questions and simply hearing the answers has been a huge relief.

I would like to offer a live outdoor Q & A session on Monday August 31st at 6:00 pm on the basketball court on the west side of the school.  We ask that you send one adult representative per Baker student.  Masks must be worn at all times and social distancing will be in effect.  Administration and teaching staff will give a brief run down on measures that will be in place for the 2020-2021 school year.  There will also be an opportunity to ask any questions you may have.  If you are at all on the fence regarding sending your child to school, this will be an excellent way to get first hand current information to help guide you.

We hope to see a great turn out!

RI Baker – Staggered School Entry and Exit Update – August 28, 2020

Further to our parent re-entry guide dated 17 August 2020, we have revised our staggered school entry policy.  This has been done in order to make school entrance more efficient and cut down on instructional time lost.  You will note that the assigned grade level doors have not changed, but the times and some of the procedures have. The two grade levels that are entering together are doing so on different sides of the school and different floors once in the school.

Students will proceed to their assigned door upon arrival at Baker (whether they have been dropped off, bussed, or walked).  At each door, they will find the letters A, B, C, and D spray painted near the door.  These letters are indicative of your child’s class pattern.  We ask that they line up behind their letter and ensure that they are social distancing and maintaining proper respiratory etiquette while outside.  There will be a large number indicating the grade level doors.

At the assigned time, a teacher from that grade level or administrator will unlock the doors and students will proceed into the school by their pattern ie. The “A” cohort first, followed by Bs and so on.

When it comes time to dismissal, a similar protocol will follow in that students will be dismissed from their classrooms in order of their class pattern, but in reverse ie. The D pattern first, followed by Cs and so on.

Please see the below entry and exit times for the various grade levels:

Monday-Thursday

8:20AM – Grade 5s (NE door) and Grade 8s (W door) enter the school and proceed to their classrooms.

8:25AM – Grade 6s (NW door) and Grade 7s (Main/East door) enter the school and proceed to their classrooms.

3:25PM – Grade 5s (NE door) and Grade 8s (W door) exit the school.

3:30 PM – Grade 6s (NW door) and Grade 7s (Main/East door) exit the school.

Friday

8:20AM – Grade 5s (NE door) and Grade 8s (W door) enter the school and proceed to their classrooms.

8:25AM – Grade 6s (NW door) and Grade 7s (Main/East door) enter the school and proceed to their classrooms.

12:20PM – Grade 5s (NE door) and Grade 8s (W door) exit the school.

12:25PM – Grade 6s (NW door) and Grade 7s (Main/East door) exit the school.

Please do not send your child earlier than the specified times.  Please encourage your child to remain at their door and socially distance.  When entering the building, students must go directly to their homeroom class.

Please encourage your child to not loiter around the school.  We will encourage students to take the safest, most direct route home.
