RIBMS Will Be Open on September 19, 2022 Provincial Day of Mourning

Good day.

In solemn recognition of Her late Majesty, the Government of Alberta has announced that September 19, 2022, will be a provincial day of mourning. September 19, 2022, is not legislated as a public national holiday. Given this information, on Monday, September 19, 2022, all schools in the Palliser School Division will proceed as per the approved calendar. The Minister of Education, Adriana LaGrange, encourages schools to offer opportunities for students to participate in the day of mourning including providing opportunities for students to watch the live stream of Monday’s Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Ceremony. The event will take place from 10-11 a.m. in Edmonton at the Alberta Legislature. The Division recognizes the longstanding commitment to public service and the leadership displayed by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who first came to the throne in 1952. We join with all Canadians in remembering the longest-serving monarch in British history, who made 22 official visits to Canada during her 70-year reign.
