Operation Christmas Child

R.I. Baker Middle School will once again be involved with Operation Christmas Child.  Last year we collected 62 gift-filled boxes and it is our hope that this year we can collect 100.

Operation Christmas Child brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world through gift-filled shoe boxes.  Anyone can participate in this simple, hands- on  project .  The shoe boxes are distributed to children around the world suffering from war, poverty, famine, disease and disaster, regardless of race, religion or gender.  Operation Christmas Child works with a large volunteer team of local pastors, charities and civic leaders that represent different denominations and organizations within each country.  This team identifies children with the greatest needs and coordinates the distributions.

Samaritan’s Purse is a non-denominational organization that provides medical supplies as well as water filters through their “Turn on the Tap” program in addition to the Operation Christmas Child project.

We would appreciate your support in this worthy cause that will provide a gift for a child.  For most of these children it is the ONLY gift that they will receive in their entire lifetime.  A combination of school supplies, hygiene items (no toothpaste),a small toy or stuffed animal, a small amount of hard candy packed in a regular sized shoe box or a plastic storage container with lid(shoe box size).  If the items are packed in a sturdy plastic container this container is extremely useful to the entire family.

Suggested items: pencils, pencil sharpener, crayons, erasers, rulers, bar of soap(placed in a ziplock bag), facecloth, toothbrush, comb, balls, yoyo’s, dolls, skipping rope, Slinky, T-shirt, socks, ball caps, hairclips. Hard candy must be in a sealed manufactures packaging.    Please DO NOT INCLUDE any liquids or breakable items.

If you have any questions please call the school during regular school hours.

Gift-filled shoeboxes may be dropped off at the school until November 15, 2013

Thanking you in advance for your support .
